About crayonsencore

I am teaching myself how to do illustrations for the stories that I want to tell. I started blogging in 2004, using crayons.

Caroline — love that blog post! We were thinking of you and your cat during that very stormy Madison night! What a sweet story how you were able to bond with your neighbors in your apartment building’s basement that night! Dave

Which rainstorm/basement night was this? I’ve lost track! SO many! I love the cozy scene with you on the loveseat and Maddie on the rug, the calm before the storm. And the party in the basement. Your storytelling reminds me of one of my favorite author/illustrators — Vera B. Williams (A Chair For My Mother, etc.) I hope to see you soon, Caroline. Time gets away from us.

      Hi Suzy Bean,

The storm was about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for the comment! I just looked up Vera Williams and am flattered by the comparison. I hope you continue to draw birds.

I love this picture story, the red wave of the siren, the motion in every image, the rain and wind… Maddie bursting out of the crate! What a cat thing to do, she wouldn’t have cared for the basement scene anyway, but it looked very fun and welcoming for the non-cats. I look forward to seeing your posts!

CB – we talked right after the storm and your visit to the basement and somehow you somehow captured the Maddie drama and all of those magical neighbor connections in your drawings and storytelling. How wonderful to preserve these memories.

This post has a little bit of everything with special nuances — lots of movement and motion, varied objects, a new way of conveying sound, and a split panel with your sweet furry friend making a dash!

I really truly appreciate the time and effort you put into your blogs and I get so much JOY when you post!
